A Door to New Possibilities

Cyclone took a leap into Boeing’s civil aviation sector, securing an order to produce a Main Deck Cargo Door for the 777 Freighter.

In the dynamic world of aviation, partnerships drive progress. For Cyclone, a subsidiary of Elbit Systems, becoming a Tier 1 supplier for Boeing signifies more than just a business milestone – it marks a leap into new realms of partnership with Boeing.

A Partnership Takes Flight

Cyclone has maintained a longstanding relationship with Boeing, supplying aerostructures for decades. However, the Main Deck Cargo Door (MDCD) project represents a new milestone. As Moran, Director of Commercial Programs at Cyclone, explains, "This project is a pivotal shift for Cyclone, positioning us as a Tier 1 supplier for Boeing. It’s not just about manufacturing a door; it’s about demonstrating our ability to meet the rigorous demands of the global aerospace market."

Engineering Excellence

Meeting the design requirements of the MDCD for the Boeing 777 Freighter is no small feat. The door, spanning approximately four by four meters, must adhere to exacting standards for precision, sealing, and durability.
Cyclone’s Technical Manager, Bernardo, underscores the importance of safety and quality: "The door’s aerodynamics and sealing must be flawless, highlighting the important nature of our work."
This endeavor required Cyclone to overhaul its infrastructure, establish new production lines, and develop specialized processes for high-altitude work. Moran recalls, "the preparation phase was just as challenging as production itself. We spent a significant time aligning resources, training teams, and working closely with Boeing so that every detail met their standards."

A Leader in Aerospace Manufacturing

The company’s work on the MDCD is more than a single achievement – it’s a potential entry point to future opportunities in the civil aviation market.
With the production of the first MDCD's already in progress, Cyclone’s ability to deliver such an important component highlights its standing as a leader in aerospace manufacturing. As Dwayne, Marketing & Business Development Manager, aptly states, "Our performance will help shape our role in the civil aviation market."
And this is just the beginning. The lessons learned and infrastructure established will help to serve as a strong foundation for new challenges ahead.
This is not just a milestone for Cyclone, but a potential launching pad for even greater accomplishments. From expanding production capabilities to exploring innovative aerospace solutions, the company is prepared to make its mark as a global leader in aerostructure manufacturing.
