M-71

155mm 39 Caliber Towed Howitzer

Elbit System's M-71 Towed Howitzer is a long-range field gun incorporating advanced artillery systems. The 155 mm 39 caliber gun features a robust tandem running gear system that allows for high-speed towing.

The howitzer's unique balanced construction enables quick and effective deployment by eight crew members. The M-71 achieves a high rate of accurate fire due to a combination of the weapon's automatic horizontal sliding breechblock, fume extractor, loader assist and wide angle of traverse.

Forged from high-strength steel, the weapon's Monoblock barrel has excellent mechanical properties, which it maintains even at high temperatures and during prolonged firing. In towing mode, the M-71's barrel faces the direction of travel. When deployed, the barrel is turned toward the direction of discharge.

Suitable for all types of 155 mm ammunition (NATO standard and others), the M-71 has a typical range of 28.5 km – depending on projectile, type of propellant and zone. The M-71 has been field-proven as an effective and highly reliable weapon. In addition, it has been tested around the globe, under multiple weather and terrain conditions.
